John Searby was credited as the first Pathfinder "Master of Ceremonies" for the Peenemunde raid of August 17 1943, and for this was awarded the Distinguished Service Order seen in the medal bar.
John Searby’s career in the Royal Air Force lasted from 1929 until 1961. His medal bar consists of the Distinguished Service Order, Distinguished Flying Cross, 1939-1945 Star, Air Crew Europe Star with clasp ATLANTIC, Defence Medal, War Medal 1939-1945 with Mention in Despatches, General Service Medal 1918-1962 with clasp PALESTINE 1945-48 and Coronation Medal 1953
