Heinkel He 111
The Heinkel He 111, a German twin-engined medium bomber, was used extensively in the late 1930s and early years of the Second World War. Like many Luftwaffe military aircraft, its development was concealed by claiming it was for high-speed commercial transport.
During the Battle of Britain, the He 111 proved vulnerable to fighter attack due to inadequate defensive armament, low speed and poor manoeuvrability. This He 111 was captured by Allied forces in 1945 and temporarily employed as a transport aircraft by an American fighter squadron.
