WAAF in air raids - Section Officer Hanbury
Recording in which Section Officer Felicity Hanbury (later Peake), a Women’s Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF) officer, describes air raids on RAF Biggin Hill.
Section Officer Hanbury gives an account of two raids over a 48 hour period on RAF Biggin Hill. She describes anti-aircraft fire, the damage caused by bombs, the difficulties caused by unexploded bombs at various locations and casualties resulting from bombs falling on or near slit trenches. She concludes her account by stating that the station was never out of action and that fighter aircraft continued to operate from it.
