Australian Night Fighter - Squadron Leader D.F.B. Sheen DFC
Recording in which Squadron Leader Sheen describes a night engagement in which he shot down a Junkers 88 and a daylight incident in which he was shot down by a Messerschmitt 109.
Squadron Leader Sheen tells how, while flying a Spitfire of 72 Squadron, he shot down a Junkers 88, his aeroplane getting covered in oil in the process. He explains how he considered this kill to be revenge for an earlier incident in which he was shot down by a Messerschmitt 109 over Canterbury. Despite being forced into a 400mph dive he baled out and landed in woods with minor injuries.
