Squadron Leader J.J. Thompson - Capture of a U-Boat
Recording in which Squadron Leader Thompson of 269 Squadron explains how he and his Hudson crew captured a German U-Boat (U-570) in the Atlantic on 27 August 1941.
Squadron Leader Thompson describes the search for U-570, gives an account of attacks made on it and recalls how the crew put out a white flag. Squadron Leader Thompson then continued to circle over the U-Boat for several hours until relieved by a Catalina. The U-Boat was eventually towed to Iceland and was commissioned into the Royal Navy as HMS Graph, while the crew became prisoners of war.
