Sopwith 1½ Strutter (Replica)
The 1½ Strutter was designed as a high performance fighting aircraft. Both the Royal Flying Corps and the Royal Naval Air Service flew large numbers of them as did the French Aviation Militaire and the Belgian and United States air services.
It was named the 1½ Strutter because of the unusual arrangement of the central mainplane bracing struts. This replica aircraft was built in 1980 to original Sopwith factory drawings and flown briefly. It represents 1½ Strutter A8226, allotted to the Royal Flying Corps in France in April 1917 and used by C Flight of No. 45 Squadron.
