Rescue by a Sunderland aircraft - Flight Lieutenant R.B. Burrage
Recording in which an Australian Sunderland pilot describes the rescue of a Whitley’s crew after ditching in the Atlantic.
An Australian Sunderland pilot explains how, before ditching, the crew of an Armstrong Whitworth Whitley transmitted an accurate position, allowing the rapid arrival of two Lockheed Hudsons. The Hudsons then circled until the Sunderland arrived, landed in rough seas and, with some difficulty, rescued the downed airmen. The Sunderland pilot concludes by commenting on the international nature of the operation.
