Aircraftsman Childs recalls how he and his team completed the raising of a barrage balloon, returned to their hut and then heard the approach of a low-flying aeroplane. He recalls how the aeroplane hit the balloon cable, losing a wing in the process, and then crashed. He then comments on the raising of a new balloon to replace the previous one.
