Flight Sergeant Whitney, a Stirling pilot, gives his account of the return journey from a raid, during which his Stirling was attacked by a night fighter. After sustaining severe damage, including the loss of the tail turret, Whitney ditched in the English Channel; after several hours in the dinghy the crew were spotted by a Beaufighter and picked up by an air-sea rescue launch, escorted by several Spitfires.
