Flight Sergeant Waddicar, a Stirling mid-upper gunner, describes the return flight from a raid on Bremen, with an engine damaged by anti-aircraft fire over the target. He describes several fighter attacks during the flight, during which the wireless operator was injured, the rear gunner killed and further damage sustained. He remembers how the Stirling’s pilot dived to evade an attack, and aircraft’s tail hit the sea as it pulled out.
