Pilot Officer Skinner, a Short Stirling wireless operator with 149 Squadron, describes the raid on Turin on the night of 28-29 November 1942 during which his pilot, Rawdon Hume Middleton, won a posthumous Victoria Cross. Their Stirling was badly damaged and Middleton injured; despite this, the crew succeeded in bringing the aeroplane back to England. After ordering his crew to bale out Middleton crashed while attempting to ditch at sea.
