In June 1928, Amelia Earhart became the first woman to cross the the Atlantic in an aircraft.
Earhart, who was a qualified pilot, was a passenger on the 1928 transatlantic flight. The pilot for the flight was Wilmer Stultz and the flight mechanic was Louis Gordon. In 1937, Earhart was reported missing when the aircraft she was flying disappeared over the Pacific Ocean during her attempt to become the first woman to complete a circumnavigational flight of the globe.
