Saskatchewan pilot - Pilot Officer Wales
Recording in which Pilot Officer Wales, a Canadian, gives an account of an incident in which he and his crew evaded two German fighters while returning from a raid.
Pilot Officer Wales explains how, while returning from a daylight raid, his bomber was attacked by a Messerschmitt 109 and a Heinkel 112. He attempted to evade by flying at very low level over the North Sea; the Messerschmitt was shot down and the Heinkel broke off the pursuit. Although his aeroplane's flight controls and hydraulics were damaged he was able to make a wheels-up landing at his home airfield.
