In 1938 Alex Henshaw, flying a Percival Mew Gull aircraft, won the prestigious King’s Cup Air Race.
The King’s Cup Air Race is an annual cross-country event, run in the UK since 1922. In 1938, the race was won by Alex Henshaw flying a Percival Mew Gull aircraft. Henshaw’s recorded speed of 236.25mph was the highest set in the King’s Cup Air Race up to that time. A higher speed would not be recorded until 1967.
