Lord Trenchard's medal group includes the Distinguished Service Order awarded during his early military career as well as decorations from his Royal Flying Corps and Royal Air Force service.
Lord Trenchard is such an important figure that his medals are one of the Museum's most treasured artefacts. As Chief of the Air Staff between 1919 and 1930 Trenchard's vision and determination helped the RAF to gain equal status with the Army and Navy as a strong and independent service. Throughout the rest of his life he continued to use the influence which his status and reputation gave him to support the RAF.
