Rolls-Royce (Packard) Merlin 28
Although it was famous for powering Spitfires and Hurricanes, the Merlin was also used to power many bomber aircraft. Designed by Rolls-Royce the Merlin 28 was produced under licence by Packard
The Merlin 28 was one of the marks of Merlin fitted to bomber aircraft. Produced by Packard it was the equivalent of the Rolls Royce Mark XX but Packard introduced a main bearing of different metallurgic composition. Featuring a single stage, two speed supercharger the engine was used on the Avro Lancaster.
