Re-arming a fighter - The turn-round
Film in which Spitfire fighter aircraft land following an operational sortie. The aircraft are met by groundcrew and the process of preparing the Spitfires for their next flight is illustrated.
Spitfire V aircraft of 65 Squadron land and are met by groundcrew. Armourers make safe a Spitfire’s machine-guns and cannons, a rigger checks the aircraft for damage, an electrician checks electrical systems and a wireless mechanic checks the radios. The gun-camera film and oxygen cylinder are replaced, the guns cleaned and reloaded, the aircraft refuelled and gunport patches replaced. The narrator emphasises the difference between operational turn-round and routine maintenance.
