The Battle of Britain: August-October 1940

A pamphlet issued by the Ministry of Information on behalf of the Air Ministry in March 1941 and sold by His Majesty’s Stationery Office priced 3d.

The Battle of Britain: An Air Ministry record of the great days from 8 August – 31 October 1940 by Hilary Aidan St George Saunders sold 300,000 copies within a week of release. Due to its popularity, it was reprinted in April 1941 and in the same month a larger format illustrated edition costing 6d was issued as the first in the ‘Official War Books’ and this went on to sell more than 2 million copies in the United Kingdom.
