Short Sunderland (NS-B) of 201 Squadron at RAF Beaulieu, September 1948
This remarkable piece of flying was done during the station's Battle of Britain airshow.
In the aftermath of the Second World War, some of the surplus space on RAF airfields was given to local councils to help with a housing shortage. The Nissen and Handcraft Huts at Beaulieu were rented to families. Many of those who took up residence were young families and recently demobilised former service personnel.
