Aircraftman 1st Class Charles Walter Finney was on board the RMS Franconia as part of the British military contingent at the Yalta conference and heard Winston Churchill speak.

The Yalta Conference took place in Crimea in the Soviet Union from 9 to 11 February 1945. Winston Churchill met with US President Franklin Roosevelt and leader of the Soviet Union, Joseph Stalin, to discuss Allied strategy and the post-war settlement of Europe. Over 700 military advisors and diplomats attended. The Franconia was used as a base headquarters for Winston Churchill and other members of the British delegation.
