Target information folder prepared by the Air Ministry Target Section, giving details of a power station and two factories in the suburb of Simmering in Vienna.
Despite being identified as a potential target, Bomber Command never flew bombing operations against Vienna. Propaganda leaflets were dropped on the city by Whitleys of Bomber Command on the night of 12/13 January 1940. Following the invasion of Italy, bomber aircraft of the 15th Air Force USAAF, operating from airfields around Foggia in Southern Italy were in range of Austria and Vienna and carried out numerous raids on the city from March 1944-March 1945.
