Target folder, operation number GO. 1236, Quadrath, 1941-1944
Target information folder prepared by the Air Ministry Target Section, giving details of the thermal electric power stations of the Rheinisches Elektrikzitatswerk im Braunkohlenrevier A.G. at Quadrath, 12.5 miles west of Cologne.
The power stations at Quadrath and the nearby one at Knapsack were notably attacked during a daylight raid on 12th August 1941. 18 Bristol Blenheims were dispatched to bomb Quadrath each carrying two 500lbs. The aircraft approached at low-level and reported accurate bombing. Three of the 18 Blenheims were shot down. Two Distinguished Service Orders, 10 Distinguished Flying Crosses and three Distinguished Flying Medals to aircrews who participated in these raids. This target information folder post dates the 1941 operation.
