Target information folder prepared by the Air Ministry Target Section giving details of the aluminium works at Rheinfelden, on the border with Switzerland.

Aircraft from Bomber Command only targeted Rheinfelden once during the Second World War, when a small force of Armstrong Whitworth Whitleys were sent to attack the works on the night of 18/19 August 1940. The proximity of the aluminium works to the neutral Swiss border might have prevented further attacks being undertaken.
