Target information folder prepared by the Air Ministry Target Section giving details of the power station at Siemensstadt in the western suburbs of Berlin.
Berlin was attacked many times by aircraft of RAF's Bomber Command and the 8th United States Army Air Force, it was an important industrial and economic centre as well as a symbolic target. In the winter of 1944/1943 Bomber Command focused its attention on attacking Berlin, in what became known as the 'Battle of Berlin' During this period Bomber Command launched 14 large scale attacks on the cities which comprised 7,403 sorties, losing 384 aircraft. Berlin was a difficult target to attack, it was at extreme range for aircraft flying from the UK and was heavily defended.
