Target information folder prepared by the Air Ministry Target Section giving details of the power station at Rummelsburg in the east of Berlin.
Berlin was attacked many times by aircraft of RAF's Bomber Command and the 8th United States Army Air Force, it was an important industrial and economic centre as well as a symbolic target. In the winter of 1944/1943 Bomber Command focused its attention on attacking Berlin, in what became known as the 'Battle of Berlin'. During this period Bomber Command launched 14 large scale attacks on the cities which comprised 7,403 sorties, losing 384 aircraft. Rummelsburg power station survived the war largely intact and after minor repairs was one of the first power stations to supply Berlin with electricity at the war's end.
