Target information folder prepared by the Air Ministry Target Section giving details of the synthetic oil production plant at Gelsenkirchen, Germany.
Located in the heart of Rhur Valley , Gelsenkirchen was an important industrial and mining centre, it was home to a the Gelsenberg-Benzin AG synthetic oil production facility and a coking plant. As a consequence of its strategic importance Gelsenkirchen and its surrounds were targeted by Bomber Command and the 8th USAAF on nearly 200 occasions.
