Tankard, North African Campaign, c.1950
This tankard is made of salvaged brass and engraved with a map of North Africa that identifies significant Second World War battles in that region.
Produced to commemorate the North African campaign, the tankard is marked with battlefields and dates from the El Alamein offensive (23 October 1942), during which the Western Desert Air Force served an instrumental role in supporting ground forces, to the capitulation of Axis forces at Bizerte and Tunis (7 May 1943). Similar tankards tracking significant battles and conflicts across Europe, Mediterranean, and the Middle East were widely produced.
