Notes for the information of candidates for commissions in the Auxiliary Air Force
Air Ministry Pamphlet providing information for prospective candidates looking to earn commissions in the Auxiliary Air Force. Air Ministry Pamphlet 1, 4th Edition, July 1930.
Air Ministry Pamphlets were issued from 1925 through to the 1970s. They were used as a means of disseminating information, instructions and regulations related to aspects of the RAF’s operations, training and personnel. Their contents were wide and varied. The Auxiliary Air Force was formed in October 1924 and in its earliest guise, consisted of citizens who were expected to assist in aerial operations in their spare time, doing so in conjunction with their civilian occupations. The Auxiliary Air Force still exists today in the form of the Royal Auxiliary Air Force, with paid volunteers training in their spare time in order to provide support for the regular RAF.
