Women's Royal Auxiliary Air Force outline of conditions of service for the information of candidates for commissions
Air Ministry Pamphlet providing information for prospective candidates looking to earn commissions in the Women's Auxiliary Air Force. Air Ministry Pamphlet 1(W), 2nd Edition, April 1950.
Air Ministry Pamphlets were issued from 1925 through to the 1970s. They were used as a means of disseminating information, instructions and regulations related to aspects of the RAF’s operations, training and personnel. Their contents were wide and varied. The Women's Auxiliary Air Force was formed in 1939. Women did not serve as aircrew but they were invaluable in a wide variety of supporting roles during the Second World War. After a significant amount of demobilisation post war, on the 1st February 1949, it was renamed the "Women's Royal Air Force". The force later formally merged with the RAF in 1994.
