The Iraqi Levies was a locally raised ground force in the British mandate of Iraq who worked alongside the RAF in maintaining internal security in Iraq.
The Iraqi Levies was a locally raised force employed by the RAF in their control of internal security in the newly created Kingdom of Iraq. The RAF, through a strategy called’ air control’ policed Iraq with only a small number of squadrons of aircraft backed by the Iraqi Levies and a small number of British troops at a fraction of the cost of maintaining a large garrison.
