The Fincastle Trophy was contested by maritime patrol aircrews from Australia, Britain, Canada and New Zealand, crews would also share knowledge and experience. The first competition held in 1961 was a simple bombing and depth charging contest, but over the years the competition evolved to take in all aspects of maritime patrol work including anti-submarine and anti-surface vessel warfare and intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance. The trophy was last competed for in 2006.
