Crowds of allied troops watching arrival of Mitsubishi Ki-57 Topsy carrying Japanese surrender delegation, Mingaladon, 26 August 1945.
On 26 August 1945 Japanese officers arrived at Mingaladon airfield near Rangoon, Burma, to begin preliminary negotiations for the surrender of Japanese forces in south-east Asia. The agreement signed in Rangoon was a preliminary step, the formal surrender taking place in Singapore on 12 September 1945.
