In 1974 16 retired aircraft earmarked for Royal Air Force Museum Hendon were in storage at RAF Cosford and a decision was made to open the hanger to the public one day a month for seven months starting 7th April. By1979 the Royal Air Force Aerospace Museum, Cosford consisted of a 140-acre site with picnic and car park areas and had a collection of 40 aircraft along with rockets, missiles, engines and models
