Crash Rescue Service, MPA Falklands, badge, Ptn 1990s
Following the Falklands conflict in 1982 a new airfield was constructed on the Falklands called Mouth Pleasant Airfield (MPA), now Mount Pleasant Complex, since when a permanent 7 day a week 365 day a year fire and rescue coverage for the complex and the wider community.
The RAF Fire & Rescue Service at Mount Pleasant Complex operate an aviation crash rescue service as well as a domestic fire emergency response for structural fires on the complex. In addition the Fire Service is able to deploy immediately anywhere on the islands in support of military and civilian personnel. The Fire Service is heavily involved in fire safety in preventing and protecting against the outbreak of fire.
