RAF, Mk. 10, Immersion Suit worn by Gp Capt Bob Iveson, 1982
Immersion suits are worn by pilots in case they have to eject over water. Bob Iveson wore this Immersion Suit when flying Hawker-Siddeley Harriers during the Falklands Conflict, 1982.
Bob Iveson was wearing this Immersion Suit on the morning of 27th May 1982, when he undertook a low-level ground attack sortie against Argentine positions near Goose Green. He was about to make a third attack when his aircraft was hit by anti-aircraft fire which knocked out the aircraft's controls and began a cockpit fire. Bob was forced to eject at very low-level, his parachute deploying just enough to prevent serious injury. Bob evaded capture and was rescue by helicopter two days later.
