The Battle of Britain: An Air Ministry record of the great days from 8 August – 31 October 1940 by Hilary Aidan St George Saunders sold 300,000 copies within a week of release. Due to its popularity in April 1941 this larger format illustrated edition costing 6d was issued as the first in the Ministry of Information’s ‘Official War Books’ and went on to sell more than 2 million copies in the United Kingdom.
