Photograph of the nose art on a Consolidated Liberator B.VI of 355 Squadron, March 1944-September 1945
An image of nose art depicting Donald Duck from 355 Squadron’s ‘D for Donald’. The name comes from the RAF phonetic alphabet in use at the time.
355 Squadron flew from Salbani in India during the Second World War from their formation on 18 August 1943. Between January and April 1946 they flew from Digri. They carried out attacks on the Japanese in South-East Asia. Following VJ Day on 15 August, the squadron, while still retaining its heavy bomber role, was employed dropping supplies to ex-prisoners of war, and other transport duties in the Far East. The squadron was disbanded in May 1946.
