The Avro Lancaster III was fitted with American-built Packard Merlin engines instead of the Rolls-Royce Merlin. Lancaster III G-AHJV was one of a number converted for use as transport aircraft.

The Lancaster transport aircraft differed from the Lancastrian, lacking the extended nose for example, and were registered as Lancasters. British South American Airlines was formed in 1945 from British Latin American Air Lines and was nationalised in 1946. The company became part of British Overseas Aircraft Corporation on 1 January 1950. This Lancaster was one which was scrapped at Tarrant Rushton in January 1950.
