Avro Tudor II (G-AGSU) on ground, Woodford 27 March 1946
The prototype Avro Tudor first flew on 14 June 1945 and was designed for routes across Atlantic. The Tudor II prototype first flew in March 1946 but crashed in August 1947.
The Tudor II had a longer fuselage to accommodate 60 passengers and was initially ordered by BOAC, Qantas and South African Airways. The Chief Designer for Avro, Roy Chadwick, was on board when the prototype Tudor II, G-AGRU, crashed on 23 August 1947. Faith in the design diminished and most orders were cancelled.
