English Electric Canberra PR.3 (WE139) of No. 231 Operational Conversion Unit made its last flight in April 1969, flying from RAF Bassingbourn to the RAF Museum store at RAF Henlow.
The Canberra was the winning aircraft in the London to Christchurch, New Zealand, Air Race of 1953. To mark the event it was given special markings on the nose. The aircraft was considered for display in the RAF Museum in 1967 and was installed in time for the Museum opening in 1972.
