Luftwaffe LKp N101 Flying Helmet
Night fighter pilots relied on verbal instructions passed from Ground Controllers to intercept incoming bombers. Once the Bordfunker (radar operator) picked up the target on the aircraft’s equipment he would pass instructions using his throat microphone, guiding the pilot to within visual range of the target.
The Lkp N101 helmet was introduced during 1941 as a lightweight summer issue flying helmet. It proved universally popular and became the standard Luftwaffe flying helmet with the all leather W101 being used in colder climates. The Lkp N101 and Lkp W101 were copied by the Soviet Air Force and continued in use into the 1950s
