Percival Mew Gull
The Percival Mew Gull was a British racing aircraft of the 1930s, and only six were built. G-AEXF won the King’s Cup with Alex Henshaw in 1938 and they then completed a record-breaking flight from England to South Africa and back in 1939. This replica is modelled on that aircraft.
The Mew Gull was typical of aircraft designed to win competitions, a compromise between speed and endurance. It was powered by a de Havilland Gipsy Six engine and had a top speed of 236mph. The original G-AEXF has been restored and is flown by the Shuttleworth Collection at Old Warden.
