Air Officer's Peaked Cap, Air Vice Marshal Sir Donald Bennett
Donald Bennett was Air Officer Commanding No. 8 (Pathfinder Force) Group. The squadrons of this specialist Group were tasked with marking aiming points for the main force of Bomber Command.
Donald Clifford Tyndall Bennett was born in Australia in 1910. He joined the Royal Air Force in 1931 and was made an Air Vice Marshal at the age of 30, the youngest ever in the RAF. The rows of gold braid on the peak and the gold wire badge on this cap mark it as belonging to an officer of the rank of Air Commodore or above.
