Memorial at Myaungmya, Myanmar to Flight Sergeants Bellingham, Snelling, Woodage and Woodbridge
Memorial to Flight Sergeants Leslie Bellingham (Second Pilot), Robert James Snelling (Flight Engineer), John Derek Woodage (Wireless Operator/Gunner) and Stanley James Woodbridge (Wireless Operator) located at Myaungmya, near Bassein, Myanmar (Burma).
Serving with No. 159 Squadron, Bellingham, Snelling, Woodage and Woodbridge bailed out of a Consolidated Liberator after it developed engine trouble during an operation. They were captured by the Japanese, tortured and beheaded. They are now buried in Rangoon War Cemetery, Myanmar, in Collective grave 3. F. 6-9. Although all four were tortured by the Japanese Flight Sergeant Woodbridge was subject to repeated and prolonged torture. The Japanese believed Woodbridge could disclose important information technical information, but despite his ordeal and knowledge that he would be killed if he did not co-operate he refused to disclose any information. Woodbridge subsequently received the George Cross.
