During the Second World War, RAF Watnall in Nottinghamshire served as the operational headquarters of 12 Group, which was part of Fighter Command. VE day, or Victory in Europe Day commemorates the surrender of German forces in Europe. It is observed on the 8 May in the United Kingdom.
