Hawker Harts (India) (K2090, K2104 and K2122) of 39 Squadron, port side view in formation flight.
Three examples of the Hawker Hart (India) belonging to No 39 Squadron fly over the mountainous terrain of the North-West Frontier province of India during the early 1930s.
The Hart (India) was a variant of the versatile Hawker Hart light bomber adapted to operate in the harsh conditions found in India. The most notable difference was the addition of a second fuel tank to the upper centre section of the wing. The Hart (India) retained the naturally aspirated Rolls Royce Kestrel engine of the original Hart design. This became a source of complaint from some crews who desired the supercharged Kestrels fitted to later Hart derivatives to help cope with the hot and high environments the aircraft had to operate in.
