Aircraft Recognition Chart: Douglas TBD-I Devastator (Twin Wasp)
Ministry of Aircraft Production aircraft recognition chart of a Douglas TBD-1 Devastator (Twin Wasp). Issue I, July 1942.
Aircraft recognition charts were an essential training tool in learning to recognise aircraft. They depicted silhouettes of both allied and enemy aircraft and were used to help military personnel quickly identify whether an aeroplane was friendly or hostile. The Douglas Devastator was a torpedo-bomber aircraft that was primarily operated by the United States Navy. The TBD-1 was fitted with a Pratt & Whitney R-1830-64 Twin Wasp engine and 129 of this variant were built.
