Aircraft recognition charts were an essential training tool in learning to recognise aircraft. They depicted silhouettes of both allied and enemy aircraft and were used to help military personnel quickly identify whether an aeroplane was friendly or hostile. The Grumman F8F Bearcat was a single-engine fighter aircraft primarily operated by the United States Navy and United States Marine Corps. It was fitted with a Pratt & Whitney Double Wasp engine.
