RAF marine craft alongside the mole at RAF Mount Batten dressed to celebrate VJ Day, 15 August 1945
Victory over Japan Day was announced on 15 August after Japan unconditionally surrendered to the Allies - nominally bringing Britain's Second World War to the end.
VJ Day was greeted with joy across Britain. While VE Day had brought an end to the war in Europe several months earlier. Here some of the craft of the RAF's Marine Craft fleet have been decorated in celebration alongside the mole at RAF Mount Batten. The base was a Royal Air Force station and flying boat base at Mount Batten, a peninsula in Plymouth Sound, Devon. It closed in July 1992.
