Royal Aero Club membership badge, 1936
The Royal Aero Club worked closely with the Air Ministry to promote aviation as a sport, awarding licences and organising races.
This membership badge was issued to Edward Fielden who joined the RAF in 1924 on a short service commission and was posted to the reserve in 1929. He was later appointed the personal pilot of the Prince of Wales, the future King Edward VIII. On his accession to the throne, Edward appointed Fielden to command the King's Flight, a post he continued to occupy after Edward's abdication. Fielden earned the nickname ‘Mouse’ because of his discretion.
